Proverbs 4: 23-27 Keep vigilant watch over your heart;that's where life starts. Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip.Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.
May the love, grace and peace of God dwell in your heart and direct your path.
Recently our family returned from another exceptional and exhausting family vacation. We spent time in one of our favorite places to visit, the mountains of western Pennsylvania. During our stay, we visited two amusement parks for the kids to enjoy and one of my son's most prized attraction was driving the race cars.
Zach sat behind the steering wheel and boldly turned the wheel whenever he felt it appropriate to turn the car according to the track. I sat in the car's back seat without an ounce of fear or panic of crashing. Why? The amusement ride, unbeknownst to the 4 year old, was actually being guided by the metal rail beneath the car's chassis. With great confidence from both of us, the car and passengers made it around the track securely.
So who or what guides your life? What do you use to keep you on track?
God has invited us to acquire the gift of wisdom as the rail to guide our travels. Wisdom is a gift from God which is acquired through prayer, bible study, critical thinking, life experiences, exploration of the arts and science and mentoring relationships. As the days pass by we certainly all grow older, but not everybody grows wiser.
One of the greatest writings into the quest for wisdom is found in the book of Proverbs. July is a great month to read the book of Proverbs since there are 31 days in July and 31 chapters in Proverbs.
Take a moment each summer day and read a chapter. Meditate on it. Pray on it. Let the wisdom of God handed down through the ages impact your living today. Where have you been on the path with wisdom? Where have you gone off road with foolishness?
Let wisdom be the guide for your life as it keeps you on the path God has created and called for us to walk together.
Love, Pastor G
