Just Do It!

Luke 6:  31 (Jesus said) "Do to others as you would have them do to you."

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

To paraphrase a hip-hop phrase, "It's hard out here for a.....disciple." Seriously, the walk of faith is not for the faint of heart or the quick to quit.  Following Jesus will cause you to spiritually scale mountain peaks and traverse valley lows, there will be elements of exuberant excitement and dances with despair and despondency.

"Follow me," are still the words of invitation echoing down through the ages. Follow a path of love and not fear; peace and not hostility; humility and not arrogance.  "Follow me," offers Christ to everyone, each and every day.

The other night we had spaghetti night. Zaniah and Zachary absolutely love spaghetti night, especially with salad and garlic bread.  However, spaghetti can be messy when kids are involved. At some point, Zaniah got spaghetti on her shirt so Michelle grabbed a wash cloth, dapped it in the pan of spaghetti and wiped more spaghetti all over Z's shirt to get it clean. Right?

Wrong. Obviously Michelle did not use more spaghetti to get rid of the spaghetti. How Ridiculous. Yet, why do we try to get rid of fear with more fear or evil with more evil? How is it possible to believe we can get clean by applying the same mess to others? Why is it so difficult to see we too often increase fear and evil in the world by our reactions and not transform the world with a God like response?

So, why do we try to rid the world of fear and evil with more fear and evil? Why do we think fighting fire with fire is the faithful response? Yes, the world lives by the Old Testament response of "eye for eye and tooth for tooth," but Jesus gave us a new response. He challenged us to live in a different reality - "Do NOT do to others the same they do to us. Instead Jesus said, "Do to others as you would have them do to you."

As stated, following Jesus is NOT for the faint of heart or weak of spirit. It takes serious spiritual fortitude and a heart basking in the love of God to live a life as a follower of Jesus.  Only by giving your heart to God can you be so saturated with love and grace, you can't help but respond as Jesus determines and not as the world demonstrates.

Pray for the Sacred Spirit of Christ in these days. Seek the Words and Will of God in every moment and see the golden come to rule your life.

In Jesus Name,

Pastor G
