John 1: 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed). 42 He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter). 43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth."
Dear Beloved Disciples,
May the grace, peace and love of Christ be overflowing in your life.
John the Baptist tells Andrew then Andrew tells Simon Peter; Jesus calls Philip then Philip goes and gets Nathanael. Each encounter for each individual offers an opportunity to express their own experience with Jesus Christ to a family member or friend.
The same inviting spirit to know and follow Christ demonstrated by the first disciples should be the same spirit we embody. Like many realities in life, normally the most effective means to communicate how great a movie, book or experience is comes through word of mouth and personal testimonies. The same holds true for the sharing of the good news through Jesus, the most effective means to inviting family and friends is through our own stories and sharing about the faith.
But please remember, "you can't teach what you don't know, you can't lead where you won't go and you can't introduce somebody to someone you don't know." Perhaps the struggle in our sharing about Jesus is we have not spent the time following Christ through prayer, reading Christ's words and story, regularly gathering for worship and fellowship in the church and serving as Jesus served.
Indeed, John the Baptist tells Andrew then Andrew tells Simon Peter; Jesus calls Philip then Philip goes and gets Nathanael. Who have you told about the love of God through Christ our Lord? Where have you offered an invitation and opportunity for friends and family to come and know the Lord through the ministry of the church? How can you share the love of God through your daily living and use words if necessary?
Be ready when the Holy Spirit opens the opportunity for a life giving invitation to know Christ our Lord.
Love, Pastor G
